For example, Xamarin platform allows one to develop web applications and Apps for iPhone and Android using C# programming language and VB programming language. 

Then, Xamarin's translator takes care of deploying the program written in c# to iPhone's and Android's  native languages. It also has emulators for both platforms.

C# and VB languages also can be used for Web Development to write websites, Windows services, and WindowsForms programs.
