In group interviews the beat part is we find out how participants react to views and how sharp they are to catch the right question and respond to it. We also get to know how comfortable participants are in public speaking and their conflict management skills. The major problems in group discussion is that HR May miss on identifying the intelligent employees who are more thinkers than executors. Thinkers generally do not speak at the drop of a hat and the proportion of thinkers vs executors are very important to have in any organisation. Not all may be good at public speaking but may be very skilled and good at their jobs. These people will get missed out.

Thanks for the question my name sake. Group interviews helps to easily get the best among candidates. It is also not time consuming. Some of the bad things about it are that a shy person may not do well in a group but might be the best on individual interview. Also a candidate who is an introvert may not do well in this type of interview

Pro's of group interviews are you get detail information about the candidate. One can judge the potential behavior, responsiveness, qualities, expression and team work of the candidate and how he may react in the crowd with experiences, ideas, problem solutions, leadership qualities. Con's of group interview are when you are hiring an employee for a particular task like back office work, data punching, accounts etc that doesn't involve much of people interaction or public meetings, visits than it will not be much effective. That mostly require detail discussion about the skill, knowledge and expertise. So there is a chance that confidence may steal the show in group interview where as there might be a prospect/candidate who will be expert in the work but will be shy or less expressive in front of the panel or group and could be missed. So they both have there pro's and con's !.
