The most effective approach to teaching ESL to adults is to build off of their strengths.
Everyone enters the classroom with a certain skill set. Leveraging those skills assists in the language acquisition as the learner is able to focus on the language in such a way that their “affective filter” (Krashen, 1987) is lowered, allowing for increased access to the content of the lesson.
