My top 3 challenges as an ESL Teacher whilst teaching online during COVID-19 lockdown were:
1. Adapting the textbook designed for face to face teaching to online content. I supplemented the text book material with online fun and engaging activities with Kahoot and Socrative.
2. Getting students to participate. It was a new experience for them and they were shy about typing their answers. I adapted my activities to do polls and activities using emojis and had fun points for students who gave me verbal responses.
3. Troubleshooting Blackboard issues were a significant issue for me. I used Blackboard help and YouTube and inhouse experts to resolve these issues.
