DNA is double strand while RNA single strand

Nabil Hijazi
by Nabil Hijazi , Director , Biocell Lab

The main difference between DNA and RNA is the sugar present in the molecules. While the sugar present in an RNA molecule is ribose, the sugar present in a molecule of DNA isdeoxyribose. Deoxyribose is the same as ribose, except that the former has one more OH.

DNA does not usually exist as a single molecule, but instead as a tightly-associated pair of molecules. These two long strands entwine like vines, in the shape of a double helix. This arrangement of DNA strands is called antiparallel. The asymmetric ends of DNA strands are referred to as the5′ (five prime) and3′ (three prime) ends. One of the major differences between DNA and RNA is the sugar, with2-deoxyribose being replaced by the alternative pentose sugar ribose in RNA. The four bases found in DNAare adenine (abbreviated A),cytosine (C), guanine (G) andthymine (T). A fifthpyrimidine base, calleduracil (U), usually takes the place of thymine in RNAand differs from thymine by lacking a methyl group on its ring.

all the answer is right after me to reem and nabil

The main difference between DNA and RNA too is type .

like RNA SINGLE STRAND  have many type (mRNA , tRNA ,rRNA ,prokaryotic RNA) in the prokaryotic cell and eukaryotic cell

in prokaryotic cell RNA in the cell free without nucleus.and replicated with themselvies

in eukaryotic all RNA INSIDE THE NUCLEUS.and replicated by templet strand of DNA

but DNA  DOUBLE STRAND don`t have any type  and DNA don`t find in any prokaryotic cell just only in the nucleulous which in nucleus which in the eukaryotic cell.

DNA replicat by using tRNA (transition ), rRNA (RIPOSOME) to form exactly double strand of the first DNA to the cell when the replication of the cell

DNA USE the mRNA to transition templet DNA  to form amino acids

DNA IS the source of RNA in the eukaryotic

DNA & RNA

1- The sugar present in the molecules: RNA molecule contains  ribose, while DNA contains deoxyribose. Deoxyribose like ribose, except that the former has one more OH.

2- DNA  usually exist as a tightly-associated pair of molecules. These two long strands present in the shape of a double helix in antiparallel arrangement. While RNA exist usually as single.

3- The asymmetric ends of DNA strands are referred to as the5′ (five prime) &3′ (three prime) ends, While RNA is reversed.

4- The four bases found in DNA are adenine (abbreviated A), cytosine (C),guanine (G) and thymine (T). A fifth pyrimidine base, called uracil (U), usually takes the place of thymine in RNAand differs from thymine by lacking a methyl group on its ring.

DNA is usually occurs inside nucleus and some cell organelles, most of RNA is in the cytoplasm

The sugar portion of DNA is 2-deoxyribose. The sugar portion of RNA is ribose .

The base present in DNA are (A) adenine ,(G) guanine ,Thymine (T),cytosine (C).The base present in RNA are A,G,( U) uracil, C

The main difference in DNA and RNA lies  with in the structure of them. DNA as the name suggest is Deoxy ribo nucleic acid which means that here is a lack of oxygen atom in the C2 position of the sugar moiety where as in case of RNA the oxygen moiety is present in the C2 position of the sugar back bone. This chemical differences made the DNA and RNA to differ in the susceptibility of reaction with alkali. The DNA cannot readily mix with alkali where as RNA can react with alkali to form a cyclic structure popularly known as cyclitization reaction.

In DNA the pentose sugar of nucleotide is Deoxy ribose, which lack one oxygen atom at 3' carbon and in RNA it is ribose which is having an oxygen at 3' carbon

Diffrence between DNA and RNA :

1)- Sugar : DNA has Deoxyribose WHILE RNA has Ribose .

2)-Nucleotid : in DNA we found :A T C G WHILE in RNA we found : A U C G ( The T in DNA is replaced by U in RNA  ) .

3)- number of strand :DNA : double strand and RNA one strand .

The DNA is a double strand and containes the genetics materials inside the nucluos and can not move out side of the nucluos. The RNA is a single strand and a copy of one strand of DNA which can migrate to the cytoplasma and one of the role is to build up the proteins in the Riposones.

l'ADN est double brins l'ARN est simple brin et la base trionine devien uracile

The main difference is nucleotides,in RNA uracil is present instead of thymine which is commanly present in DNA
