For improvement of spellings:
Once our teacher asked a simple question to our class one by one:
"What do you want to become in future"
He then made it complicated by striking with a counter question of "spell it"
e.g., if a student said that he wats to become Doctor, Mr. Muhammad Ali (the Teacher) asked "Spell the word Doctor'"
I was poor at spellings so, I tried to get rid of this question by just replying that I want to become Teacher.
Amazingly, the teacher appreciated but on very next moment I was surprised to hear the question.
That was "Go and write the spellings of Professor "
That was a difficult task for me.
At that time I started to learn spellings and if at that time there were a compitition of Spelling Bee, I might have got first in that as I prepared my own tricks and tips for memorising (Ame: memorizing).
1: take a deep look at vowels
2: whenever a word starts with letter Q, it must be followed by letter U and letter U will be followed by another vowel.
3: Letter G must have a vowel followed or following, except when it is at the end of a word.
4: Same is with letter R
5: None of the word can be completed without using vowel or letter Y or letter H, if it has more than three Characters.
6: There are only rare cases where you will find words without vowels (they will be at most three letters long + mystry and rythm)
8: While creating plurals teach the students about rules rather than memorizing plural of each word
e.g., for all words which end with ch, th, x, s add es to make them plural
for all words ending with letter F following a vowel add ES
for all words ending with letter E having letter F before letter E remove both letters and put VES.
