As long as you are so good to refrain from telling the truth , that's mean you are a diplomatic person.

Diplomacy is skill of being careful what to say and what not to say so that people will not offend, because in some cases just as in politics if you are not diplomatic then it will be risky but in love or any relation no one should be diplomatic.

Lie the root of evils so a liar cannot be trusted because to trust a liar means  to give liar bullet to kill one'sself.

Diplomacy is the skill and tact of dealing people. The ability to deal with people is the prerequisite for any successful person, company, nation, venture, etc. In order to successful deal with people, you have to know when to refrain from telling the truth but People who are fake are looking to benefit themselves.

Theoretically the2 terms are very different but practically diplomacy is not necesarely about lying but about being fake. But in a certain measure is about lying also. And to be diplomatic person you have to handle the ability of lying with the smile on the face, to be fake and pretend.

Truly, there is no major difference between them. But, Diplomacy is an indirect approach (annoying not directly) and lying is direct approach (annoying directly to others).

The two sides of the same coin, but the most effective one is  diplomacy, as it’s how to get what you want with minimal losses.

Diplomacy is the art of convincing your wife to change out of a dress that is too small because she has gained weight - without her killing you.

Lying would be to say she looks great and let her go out in it.
