Yes there are but sometimes it gets difficult to work with foreign companies because their paying methods may not be available in your country.

Sometimes you are not paid for your work or they send you a sample of1-2 pages to test you, then send1-2 pages to10 other translators and end up with having a complete document without the need of paying anyone, so it's a risky zone.

It is also very competitive as there are plenty people who pretend to be translators just by knowing the language and they often agree to work on low rates decreasing the average translation price which is very harmful for our career.

Hi Shawqi:

Yes there are actually a few, however just by skimming some of the comments below I see many are complaining that they do not get paid etc.

Please do check www.elance.com (it is my all-time favorite), it is a freelance portal and is extremely efficient, all payments are made through “escrow”, this ensures that you actually get paid, the money is held by a third party (that being elance themselves) until the job is completed.

They also happen to have an entire team to deal with disputes of any matter.

Be warned though, competition is pretty fierce there.

Good luck people!

Mohammad.

Gengo

Yes, there are plenty of freelance translation websites. The most famous one is "Gengo". It's a reputable japanese company which conducts the payments through "PayPal" or "Skrill".

In Gengo, you'll be tested a simple pre-test; then you'll be having a standard translation test, if you pass those you'll be qualified to recieve standard jobs in which the pay rate is about0.03 $/word.

There's a more advanced test which qualifies you for the pro-level in which the pay rate is0.08 $/word.

Then comes the final proofreading test which qualifies you for recieving even more jobs.

odesk

There's also another freelance website which isn't entirely about translation, but it does have more than enough of translation tasks. It's "oDesk"
