For Electrical & Instrumentation Equipment Selection in Oil & Gas Sector, Some Specialized Concepts are used:
First of all Hazardeous Areas are Defined as per Potential of available on the Plant.
Then Electrical / Instrument Equipments are selected accordingly.
Different Concepts like IP Protection / Hazardeous Area / Explosion Proof / Flame Proof / Sparking - Non-Sparking / Operating Temperature Ranges/ Hazard Class / Fire Potential Division / Zones / Intrinsic Safety etc etc are applicable. All or a few only.
Electrical Engineering
the use of anti explosion materials (ATEX) is required to eliminate the electric étincels in hazard areas (gas and oil)
I can say that ELECTRIC MOTORS are the most widely and extensively used electrical equipment in the oil and gas industries. It is widely used to drive mechanical equipments involving whatever movements. It is used to drive pumps (large & small) which is the number one vast application. It is widely used in travel, hauling & lifting by O/H cranes, travel by conveyors and any pulling movement. It is used to drive compressors, blowers & fans for boilers. It is used in HVAC systems for chilled water & AHU and more. Electric motors applications and usage is very broad because of its ability as prime mover.
I hope to have shared you some ideas. Regards & thanks.
Electrical motors and generators are the most important equipments in oil and gas production. At the drilling operation we can use electro-motors and generators.
hi sir.., what about T5 and Ex d ....
Hi Mahir,
I've worked as an electrician in hazardous environments for over5 years in Australia. All electrical equipment is unique because of the conditions they are installed in. Special electrical equipment used in oil and gas fields is designed to work in hazardous environments such as gas and dust. They are rated for explosion protection and come with an Explosion protection certificate. They have the symbol Ex on them. Some of the protection techniques are Exd, Exp, Exn, Exi, and so on.....There are nearly standards that cover Explosion protection Internationally and in Australia. This topic is quite large to cover in a few sentences
I hope this briefly answers your question. I also found an article that explains the Hazardous area working conditions, duties, responsibilities, etc. of an Electrician working in the oil & gas industries. You can check it here: https://bit.ly/336tAho
Cheers and good luck
there lot of types of works there?
if the Electrical equipment for extraction
Electrical equipment for bore hole works
Electrical equipment for oilfield operations
Electrical equipment for collection and preparation of oil
Electrical equipment for pipeline transport of oil and gas
