Precautions can be divided into two major parts, Receiving of Materials and Issuance/Loading of Materials
Chances are you may get materials with specifications you have not ordered or may be slightly different of what you actually need. Receiving of this different material apparently looks that need not to bother about. But keeping minimum stock holding cost this may cause a serious break in production line when we go for replacement or complaint for receiving of such materials.
Same is true with the case of issuance, deviating from FIFO may lead to expiry of the batch/lot in both finished or raw materials
To prttect The warehouse Losses the follwing procedures are useful ,
To avoid damages while Receiving is the warehousing process that involves taking receipt of raw materials or products, updating inventory records to show the new items, and placing the items in their proper location for appropriate inventory organization and management. Equipment such as dollies and pallet loaders are used to unload items through doorways or loading docks and transport them into inventory. Procedures developed for this step should include use of proper equipment and safe unloading.
Once raw materials or goods are received at a warehouse, they enter the inventory control phase of warehousing. This begins with proper storage. Procedures at this stage include using a forklift to move the inventory, then stacking it in the correct place. Companies typically use computer programs to monitor inventory levels to avoid excess or shortages.
For shelf life products, atmost care should be taken to avoid any dead stock/ non moving stock losses
