Selling over the internet as you named it works with certain products, but expensive and complex products I personally couldn't do it over the internet as customers need to know many variables, visiting a customer and understanding his needs you can bring with you technical and field experience and sometimes they need demonstrations and assurances that what you are offering them will do the job specified by your customer, your role would more of a consultant.
It is two different methods of selling,it all depends on the product offer and its complexity
These are two different ways of Selling:
One is easy but may not ensure you sincere customer base and guarantee of sustained business called Internet Marketing however it may give you global customers.
The other is more Profound, tested, tried and gives you genuine customer base and Opportunity to develop business and expand through Customer Focussed Selling by having a Professional &Trained Sales team on Board.
Marketing can be generally done in2 ways – to introduce a product to someone face to face, or to do it behind the computer, otherwise also known as ‘direct selling’ or ‘Internet marketing’.and the character growth in which we can get out of direct selling is tremendous. Firstly, we improve our ability to deal with rejections with a smiley face. Secondly, we are trained to be able to handle different objections. Thirdly, winning over a person face to face is easy. In fact, it is easy to detect sincerity and deception. Not in Internet marketing, However in Internet marketting we deal with a bigger market. This marks the first benefit. The power of the Internet allows us to tap into the global markets. Secondly, the Internet marketing business can bring business cost down tremendously. e.g; you may not need to load inventories in your warehouses or bear variable costs such as utilities and rental.
You can place an Indent with manufacturer or manufacture as per the requirement thus reducing your overall business cost but you may not have the luxury of running an enterprise and cultivating an ethical business and good customer base.
As a concept and result it is the same (sales), but technically '' YES '' it needs a different skills, effectiveness, procedure, talent, tasks, presence and effectiveness.
Best Regards,
There are3 sales methods in your question:
Marketing Online, by phone & meeting.
Online: you have to use the marketing tools that depends on highly professional design adds depends on the budget. but as you are not in direct contact with the customer you have to get his attention using the right tools and reach as much customers as you can.
Phone: you have to practice how to make a successfull conversation, usually customers wants to hangup and they don't want to continue the conversation so that conversation should be planned and professionally be attractive.
Meeting: depends on the self confidence and the beleif in the service that you are providing and should be planned who to meet - meeting the right person who can make decissions - and what the customer already have out of the service you are providing to offer him new service or better than the one he has.
Depends on the product you have, and on your target segment to.
Like if you are selling a software, and your target segment is familar with computers, then selling online is ok, but if you are selling shoes, most of your segment would like to see and touch them first. It also depends on the demographic of your segment, for example in the united states, most consumers are ok to buy anything online from a tooth brush to an SUV, unline consumers in the GCC.
If you planning to sell online, be sure to include all required information about your product online, this can be assured by simply asking yourself, what would my customers ask about? If you are selling a physical good, include clear photos of your product and recommended to include photos of the product in useStart a digital marketing campaign to let your consumers know about your website, use the correct keywords that relates to your product when placing a search engine ad.
Social media marketing is great for quickly let people know about your website but would be hard to target your customers for some special types of segmentsFinally, always tell your customer what to do in order to buy your product, "Buy now", "Call us"...
