Does age matter when it comes to employment? Is there age discrimination when job applicants are considered for employment? What do you think?

Employability refers to a person's capability of gaining employment. person's employability depends on the knowledge, skills and attitudes of this person. On the other hand labour market rules and institutions have significant impact on the ability of an individual to gain employment. Hence, a person with the same knowledge and skills characteristics might fare very differently in different national or regional labour markets.

In the face of population ageing, it is commonly believed that older workers have to be stimulated to stay longer in the labour force. However, job loss occurs frequently at older ages. One barrier that may prevent employers from hiring older workers is their relatively high labour cost. Unless higher wages are sufficiently compensated by a higher productivity, they may prevent employers from hiring older persons. Older job seekers tend to be less willing to work for a reduced wage.

As people grow older, they have a tendency to perceive more difficulties to find a job in the external labour market. Individual factors (within a person’s control) as well as structural factors (beyond a person’s control) suggest a decline in perceived ease of movement as people age. Since physical abilities decline with age, people may no longer be able to do jobs requiring physical strength as they move towards the retirement age.

Structural factors may also explain why ease of movement declines with age. It is commonly known that, as people move from mid to late career, they are often confronted with age-related stereotypes and discrimination. Consequently, as one grows older, age can become more and more of a barrier to employment opportunities. They still may be aware of the general finding that age has a negative effect on the chance of finding a job. Also ‘Ease of movement’ decreases with age. Since ease of movement refers to the perception of moving easily in the labour market, a higher ease of movement is likely to strengthen the belief of having a strong negotiating position with future employers. This may result in higher wage claims.

We all MUST have accurate answer as i am sure we all agree on one thing , AGE is matter or not it depends for the the Job needed and the qualifications as well, meaning , i can't apply for Junior postion as i am senior Or i can't apply for Managerial level and my age  is20 , meaning the Age don't matter as long you are applying for the Correct Job with its requirments and its need as well, finally if all of us got old i mean +60 then we MUST leave a space for other individuals as we will not take the  job with us till death but i think the normal age to end your career is +60 , but less than that you can seacrh and keep on search till you find the Job need you age and your experince as well.

I Dont believe age has nothing to do with the job, unless the job particularly called for physical attributable youth...

The productivity is more related with passion of the jobs..

As long as you are above the age of18 i do not think age matters i think the ability to execute the job at hand should be considered and not age.

Age is not important for hiring but something to consider for a certain position in the company. I believe that people are able to do a job as long as the body, mind and spirit is willing to accept the responsibilities and do it responsibly.

Age is also a great factor for employer.because when age is up their mentality and enthusism to work also decrease .within these their working capability day by day degrade due to their inertia into body.thats why now mention the age when aplly into a top level job.
