Preventive Maintenance is a procedure used to keep equipments running the way it was installed to enhance equipment life time.
energy efficiency is an engineering matter which means how to get the optimum output and best results of your design.

most of aspects regarding to the relationship between preventive maintenance and energy efficiency are mentioned by other friends.
one more point is that preventive maintenance decreases the failure time of equipment. in other words lag time for operation increases. therefore you can manage the operation time in a better way. you can pause the operation during those times where the energy price is high (peak times) and shift the operation to those times with cheaper energy cost.

Preventive maintenance means less failures and better performance of equipment. Speaking in money it means no failure = no costs. While doing preventive maintenance everything you do is in small steps improvement of equipment and it means means less money. Working with faulty equipment means more energy demand = more costs.
Continuous improvement through preventive maintenance means much more savings to company then let it as it is and do a regular maintenance when failure happened.
In my opinion effective PM can keep the equipment in its peak performance and prevent it from failure and corrective maintenance, which are costly and energy consuming. In simple words PM is good solution for saving money and consuming less energy which will lead to a better environment.
