Yes I do support this but it should be controlled and managed carefully

Currently I’m using the company page on facebook for communicating the progress, achievements, announcements, memos for one of the strategic project for the company

Well I don’t have any idea how useful that would be in project communication, but I m in favor of allowing social media to the project team but as Khaled said that should be controlled and managed carefully

For project communication management, no i don't. I would suggest using some sort of  intranet Collaboration software or over cloud and "social Media" to be one of its module.

Policies must take place since any project data (documents, Drafts, Images, etc) are confidential and should be controlled.

As you know the communication has about80-90 % of the time consumed by project manager.

So we should exploit every method to activate the communication.

Social media is strong and useful in communicating to the outer world on companies products and services. You can reach a larger customer base easily.

But for Project communication which is purely an insider topic, a definite "No".

We do have internal forums and share points for project communication. This should be the route to follow. If you dont have this opportunity, you can build a protected share point with controlled access to all concerned.

i dont think so or in some other ways, like say ,hiring people, you can use social media in it. but for more serious business dealing and communications this will not be possible.

I still see that social media is excellent for social informal issues. Project management is a serious business issue and it involves internal (may be confidential information) which should not be shared in social media to protect the organization's competitiveness.

First I would recommend reading: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc506049.aspx

then taking a closer look at "mof security management"

After reading and implementing this I believe it's quite ok to allow social media in your project communication management.

Yes and No.

Yes because social media as form of client communication tool is good as message with marketing at the same time.

No because there are cases where the topic is enclosed with an NDA and this is a very sensitive subject especially for startup product or ideas.

It depends on the confidentiality of the project, if the project is related to CSR or environment, it would be recommended to have communications all around to enhance the corporate image, but if the project comes as a new technology for example to compete with others, and have an advantage above competitors, it would be better not to communicate it through social media, at least in the early stages, so that others would not be able to easily follow.
