Building management systems

Historically, building management systems (BMS) controlled only the building environmental controls or heating, ventilation and air conditioning system on an analogue network. In recent years there has been a shift towards providing digital solutions, and as such the BMS market has started moving into Internet Protocol (IP) based solutions. The advantage of this approach has been the ability to interface with other building systems such as CCTV and access control. Gartner, a market research company, has predicted by201570% of BMS systems will be delivered over IP.

Your challengesThe intelligent building will play a more dominant role in building design in the future. The problem at the moment is that mechanical and electrical consultants follow a very traditional delivery model, often designing solutions that are risk averse, with a proven track record. The result is often an approach where building systems and technology systems are delivered as individual packages with very little thought put into what could be achieved by integrating elements. Turner & Townsend considers and delivers the potential future cost savings and flexibility a client would expect from a new flagship building. What we do

  • Develop the client intelligent building requirements Lead the procurement of the mechanical and electrical team
  • Inform and develop design with the mechanical and electrical engineers
  • Assist in the appointment of the main contractor
  • Assist in the development of BMS, security, access control and other dependant packages
  • Assist during the procurement process

What you get

  • Natural ventilation-reduced cooling requirements means a lower carbon foot print
  • Integrated card systems – Access Control, Computer Login, Cashless Vending, Meeting room bookings and printing – reduced costs
  • Single structured cabling system – reducing costs
  • Additional BREEAM points – aiming to take you from Excellent to Outstanding
  • Flexible working – reduced running costs
  • Ability to accurately monitor and control utilities and facilitates carbon trading
  • Reduced training

My job exposure & expertise was in power plants and Industries in downstream oil and gas, dessalination, and substations engaged in construction, maintenance and operations. Honestly, I have not yet handled BMS projects for building and infrastructures. I only had some project experience in communications and FA systems applied for Petrochemical plants and Refineries in installation, maintenance and construction. Anyway, thanks for your request.
