Best way to bring any business to profit is reaching Break Even quickly and it can be done with giving a cushion for good margin in a business and keeping expenses low in initial stages as you expand you can invest gradually. There will be competition in any business if there is competitive analysis done before hand it gives you and advantage over others when ever you launch a new service or product in market. Give best customer service, focus on good marketing startegy and give emphasis on quality surely you edge pass competition.

Profitability and differntiating your business are two different things.

Profitability means that the sale price of your products/services is larger than your total costs and difference is your progit.

Differntiating your business requires that you define a product/service or a feature that is not provided by your competition and see if your can provide it profitably to your target markets. You can also differntiate your business by differntiating your business processes to decrease your costs or increase your revinue.

In order to differentiate your business from others, you will have to work out to see how many positive & negative points are there.

If you have more positive points, then you have to work out ways to reduce or completely remove the negatives (wherever possible) by working out different strategies.  If the negative are negligible and unavoidable, just focus on the positives and promote it strongly to the public.

Now in order to set apart your business from competitors, you will have to know your position in the market.  For this purpose, work out suitable strategies which will provide the figures through a research.

Meantime, just focus on providing quality service, ensure timely response to customer complaints, set up attractive offers to gain attention, conduct an open and frank approach with customers in order to identify where their preferences are, engage customers in activities which will bring the customers closer to the business through marketing activities.

With this approach, we will be able to have a rough idea of our position and the extent of support we have from the public.

From this, you can reduce the unnecessary overheads and reach a profitable situation eventually.
