Ask your manager or HR for your performance evaluation for the past couple of quarters/years. At the point of5 years, you should ask yourself the question of why you are still at the same level. There must be something wrong or lacking with either the management side, or from you. It could be either you have an average performance for the past years, OR there is really no opportunities for a promotion in the company that you're with. If you have been an excellent employee and they are not promoting you, it could either be political or maybe you aren't proactive enough to engage yourself to be noticed by the management for a promotion. If however, the company doesn't have any opportunities or openings for a higher level position for5 years, then ask them on what are your areas for improvement. Do a SWOT analysis on yourself. If they still don't feel like promoting you even though you are displaying good performance and achievements for the past5 years, then leave them, you deserve to be on a better place with a better organization giving better opportunities for their people.
It depends on whether you enjoy your work or not. Enjoyment of work and a good working atmosphere are not that east to find. If you have those things already, then speak with your superior to find out why you haven't received a promotion and possibly what you could do to get a promotion.
Request an explanation for such behaviour and whether it is for some weakness that I have or something else.
