7 Steps to a Fulfilling Career Doing What You Love

Job seekers limit their possibilities by focusing on the job they want, rather than how they want to contribute to the world. Once you figure out how you want to contribute, you’ll discover that many paths will give you the skills, credibility and contacts you need to succeed.

Here are the steps to take to broaden the scope of your search and land the gig that will not only pay the bills but will also put you on the path to long-term success.

1. Figure out your mission.

2. Write down the existing barriers to fulfilling your mission.

3. Research10 people who have already have the kind of career that you want.

4. Identify the specific skills, credentials and relationships that are necessary to overcome the barriers to achieve your mission.

5. Spend time with people who are more successful than you at doing what you want to do.

6. Be friendly and generous and seek to give before you get.

7. Introduce yourself “as if” you are that which you aspire to be.

This depends on what you would like to achieve in your career...your career ambition. Career coachings will help to work towards your ambition - You may have experts in your own organization or you can take help of external experts. They will start with understanding your past history in terms of education, experience, skills developed, etc. Then based on what you want to be in near future to long term - they will look at whether your current education and skills are sufficient. Otherwise, they will advise you with couple of areas you need to develop. This is exactly the "Career development plan". This will also have actions for skill development through planning for exposure along with experience. etc

I see that a fullfilling career path is either the career you are in if you enjoy what you are doing and the returns are sufficient for your level within the career or it is that you want to change your carrer. In the later case, you have to decide depending on your situation (education, skills, evergy, fainancial status) which is the career that you can change to.
