Orientation as a starting point of Training & Development function? HR professionals, do you agree that designing& implementing Orientation or Induction program is the starting of T&D function? If not then what? Do share your expertise.
1. Presently, Orientation or familiarization program is well practiced in all the renowned Companies. This is very much starting point of Training and Development’ designed for the new comers into an organization. The aim of such program is to familiarize the new comers with the policies and practices, does & don’ts of the Organization. It provides in-depth focus on the practiced norms of the company so that, the individual employee can adjust quickly with the working environment.
2. Besides, Training and Development continuously developing the training modules for the employees to keep them updated the changes of knowledge and technology so that they can cope up with the changed situation.
The Orientation Program could be one of the first things to do when establishing the T&D function, however I think that there are other things that are more important. Such things would be to develop the whole concept of the T&D, to design a system that will let you measure the relevant competences and to see how you will be able to address the various training needs etc.
If you want to develop the Orientation Program as one of the first things, it is OK, but make sure that you revise and upgrade it as soon as the other things are in place.
In many companies, they are using the "Orientation" word to introduce any information that is related to the company and the country tradition. The main aim behind the T&D is to use the assets "employees" of the company to achieve and maintain a competitive advantage for the organization
