Some safety violations at construction sites are as follows: -

1. Work at height without fall protection

2. Working near / on energized equipment

3. Work permit instruction violations

4. Misuse of tools and abusing fire-fighting / safety equipment (extinguishers, hoses, posters, signs etc.)

5. Violating mandatory PPE

Although this problem is because of safety culture and safety climate in the organization which is directly connected with top management commitment to safety and employee involvement in the safety process yet some remedial actions are recommended:-

1. Highlight the issue in toolbox talks and safety meetings

2. Behavior molding through training and other communication medium (posters, signs etc.)

3. Reward system for best performance

4. Appreciation from top management

5. Disciplinary actions against violators is the least recommended but can be exercised.

The most common health and safety violation is the failure to enforce safety standards.

Too often the process is in place for the main contract, but is not enforced for site visitors, sub contractors etc.

I have seen security guards sitting on construction sites without safety gear, yet the entire demoliton team was100% compliant.
