While it is tempting to undertake supplier development initiatives that are only about immediate cost reduction, it is critical to also proactively create programs that ensure longer term cost avoidance and build “proactive” supplier partnerships. The need to establish longer term supplier relationships is one of the most important trends affecting sourcing today. Why? Because organizations are relying more and more on outsourcing and need to ensure that their outsourced partners are strong for the long term. As organizations extend these relationships across international borders, explicit training, communication/planning and development of lasting relationships become increasingly important
In both MUST all the suppliers either they are already exisiting or new one Update themselfs in order to be on line within the market status , unless the company will not deal with them and looking for other which provide the company needs on time with more facilties as well, regardless the payment terms / the supply on time / always be connected with the company / can keep on operation with the company even if we didnt' pay on time for any reasons according to our company payments history with them.
the supplier should be evaluated and his delivery should be assessed according to
the quality of service he has delivered
the compliance with delivery schedule
his responsiveness
the accuracy of the information’s he has provided
his after sales services
his compliance with rules and regulation
The most important is supplier reliability, competitiveness, superior performance and reputation, and flexibility.
I expect to deal with suppliers as one of the company's departments. We probaly can't force all issues with supplier, but I suggest that we shoot for supportive strategies, common success factors (at least for the relationship matters), & KPIs with inputs from both parties.
Major challnges to be addressed in supplier development are:
Effective communications procedures
Clear shared goals
Effective team building to include members from concerned parties
Shared definition of business parameters such as quality, customer satisfaction, and manpower development
A unified supply chain management process (at least regarding the supplied items)
A unified production plan for the supplied items
One project team including members from concerned parties to plan and execute every shared project
Willingness be all parties to invest in the relationship and share the benefits
Supplier development process play a major role in project management, as it deals with the development of suppliers to expand their capabilities in a project, they are one of the major resources of the project so to say. So in order to meet your project deadlines and deliveries, as Project Manager, you need to have a good planning strategy as regards to project resoruces and supplier development process is one of them!
realy I don't know.
What I learned in this present buissness era in the world. Most of the companies are making supplier QC department as their company's QC recieving department to minimise the QCrecieving work to more concentrate on the company QC in-process department.
The things needed to adderess in supplier devolopment minimum as followed
Supplier and Customer should make FMEA case studies
