If you are Planning Engineer and make Planning for2 projects:1. construction2. Manufacture you will use same technique in2 projects or different techniques based on every project activities.
Well the Main concept of Planning in construction and manufacturing projects are the same.
the Goal is to optimize the output and ensure on-time delivery.
but there are little differences in techniques that are offen used
CONSTRUCTION:
but there are little differences in techniques that are often used
CONSTRUCTION:
In construction planning you will use CPM method to detect the critical path, however in some projects you might face PERT or GERT conditions as well. but your task is to plan all the activities but particularly tracking the critical path as driving factor of the project completion date
MANUFACTURING:
in manufacturing industries (any type of manufacturing industry but a little bit different for processing industries like chemicals) the project planning converts to production planning. production planning required extensive effort to arrive into an accurate result.
you shall to have number and capacity of each of your machineries in all work station. in addition you should estimate the rate of the break-down of your equipment that will hold your production process. for this purpose you shall to set up a NET programme as well to establish a maintenance and preventive method including interval check up of all the machines to ensure that they will remain operational and not stopping suddenly.
you should also to do work-time studies to know how much is the processing time of each machine on your product/part, you need to generate the work-flow diagram.
the above will help you to detect one thing!! and that is your production bottleneck.
the production bottleneck is where the capacity of the manufacturing plant will be defined. the bottleneck is a workstation that has the slowest processing speed or in a simple word is where your parts are topped up and waiting to proceed.
Now you have to move backward and reset your input raw materials rate as per the bottleneck speed.
there are some simulation software that can estimate the production rate for specific batch of production ( for example you can estimate the time required to produce1000 units of a gearbox)
PLANNING IS THE BASE PROJECT
when u. plan4 something .. u. r. putting ideas ,headlines & what should be done later on .
whereas manufacturing is ; u. have studied all previous stages including;
planning , feasibility studies & , preparing ur. assets2 be applied in the project
