Tocotrienols are members of the "vitamin E" family. There is extensive research going on Tocotrienols due to there amazing and imense benefits. They are naturally found in vegetable oils, wheat germ, barley, saw palmetto, and certain types of nuts and grains. They share identical structure with the tocopherols except for the addition of three double bonds to their side chains.

Tocotrienol is more effective antioxidant than tocopherol because its unsaturated side chain facilitates better penetration into saturated fatty layers of the brain and liver. Tocotrienols can lower tumor formation,DNA damage and cell damage.

Tocotrienols are reported to prevent the risk of several types of cancers. including breast cancer, prostate, pancreatic and skin cancer.

Also tocotrienols have been reported to reduce cholestrol level as well as risk of diabettes.

Interesting discovery is the role of tocotrienols in countermeasuring the effect of exposure to rediations. Among tocotrienols, Delta and Gamma Tocotrienols are more effective in treating patients with radiation exposure.
