By directing them to see the requirements of other certificates; and universities admission requirements and making comparisons.
I work with adults and we often talk with them what they like and whay they would not like to have
As curriculum is set by the Board of Director managing the schools or authorities, other than teachers, the teachers can only encourage students to gain maximum knowledge about their subjects, through reading and exchange of ideas during class time. For this purpose, they can set apart at least one period in a week or month depending on the situation.
Since the portions are huge and mostly students are expected to be bookworms, with only5 days per week in school, even the dedicated teachers rush through the portions, to finish their jobs on time.
Therefore, this power is in the hands of the authorities, who should encourage a more practical based approach to teaching.
Group discussion with all the students of the same grade (from5th graders,6th graders etc.... onwards) can be conducted per month at least once in a week or month with students of the same class in different division, about the subjects they have learnt over the week or month.
As children are imaginative and innovative, in comparison to adults, a lot of ideas can come up during this time. If the use of today's technology is required, then it can be done in this platform. The ideas is to encourage students to think independently and differently from a small age, so that they are prepared to face the world with a more realistic approach, when they enter into the adult world.
This is all I could think of.
