The Chinese wall was a term used at the time of Great depression in the west1929-33, to name an invisible wall that should exist in a brokerage firm that would stop insider corporate information from passing from corporate insiders to investment traders.

Yes, it does exist when there are certain Group of companies dealing with Corporate and Investment dealers seating in a single office environment. Banking secrecy act and data protection is of very high importance to avoid any potential conflicts.
