The human factor is not present their in a telephone meeting, like the intent, sincerity, and that makes the face to face interview far more important, which helps in building a good repo with the client.

Further to agreeing Jasmin and Vishnu, and apart from the fact that word, between the words and between the line meanings, we can understand him better by his body language and face expressions. Similarly we can drive client’s attention through our body language and face expressions. Words are not always enough to explain everything and there always something that we can communicated to someone but hesitate to use words, sometimes due to some fear of being caught, here the body language plays its part.

For any relationship to progress, be it personal or professional, it is advisable to have a face-to-face meeting, in order to create a stronger bond or link.

From a face-to-face meeting, we can understand the moods, emotions, level of genuinity of interests by reading the body language.  If we have a telephone meeting, we will not be able to judge all these factors, as it is only the sounds at both the ends that meet, which can be modified in order to suit that situation.

A face-to-face is comparatively relaxing to provide more details and generate interest, as such meeting is generally conducted after taking appointment.  A telephone meeting is generally unexpected and is not be the best way to generate interests.

You cannot disconnect the person from progressing further in a face-to-face meeting, whereas in a telephone meeting, the line could drop on its own or be disconnected if the person is not interested.

Face to face client meetings will help to develop a relation of trust and credibility even though you need to spend time on fixing appointment, meeting & travel. Mere telephonic conversations would be sufficient in case the involvement of client is minimal, whereas for a serious business, it would always be advantageous to have face to face meeting with the client. Nowadays, video conferencing is widely used by businesses and this can be a great alternative to face to face meetings at fixed places and can save time and money of both clients

This is an IT age and big deals are being finalized on internet and telephone. Even then face to face meeting with a client boosts mutual understanding very much and a high level confidence builds up. Sometimes it is just opposite when you don't put your case in an effective manner.

I believe there is nothing like a face-to-face meeting with the client. With this you can establish and build a long term relationship with the client that is an essential part of being productive at the work place. The importance of a face-to face meeting is underlined by the evidence that you can book more with the supplier just by sharing a handshake, smile or a meal.

After spending time with a client, you will have a significant sense of who they are, how they operate and their personalities. All of these make you more productive working with them in the future. After meeting them in person even if you talk to them on the phone, you can always see their faces in your mind.

As I experienced, face to face meeting is more fruitful and have more convincing power as compared to telephonic discussion.

During face to face discussion, you know the mood and emotion of the person infront of you and hence your can adjust your communication according to requirement.
