Not too much, as this would make the student not wish to do it. I would say concentrate on the lesson's activity of which there were difficulties and maybe a few excersizes for practise. I would never give too much as this would create a negative view on homework.
Another option is to leave the amount of homework up to the student. Anything not completed in class has the option of being homework, encouraging the student to finish the work in class, as questions and difficulties can be covered in class. Should it then be required for extra excersizes, then you can possibly allocate additional homework, especially for exam preparation.
Amount depends on student garde. Lower grades should not spend more than an hour daily at home for thier home work. For higher grades, this should not go beyond2 hours except weekends.
