In my previous company , we were having dynamic inventory management system in which bin levels vary according to the Material Requirement forecast (Pull system).
There will be two bins with defined bin qty for a particular period.
we keep on consuming the first bin gets empty which is a trigger point to the supplier for supply of material for the defined quantity .
Till the next supply comes material will be consumed from the second bin.
When it is about to finish /stock empty the next consignment will come.
In this process we used to map how many time2bin empty has come - Is it due to delay in supply (ie lead time) or due to large consumption than anticipated then accordingly bin qty will be changed.
If there is no first bin empty for a particular period (lead time) then it is clear indicator for excess inventory Further details pls contact to my mail :

Sure my company focuses on that as we do not wish any of the project scope cum schedule lag due to inflation or urgency as the case may be, and that's why i lay most emphasis on buffer stock to keep boost in production no matter the situation within every minimum and maximum inventory available since every project is targeted on time.

For warehouses, inventory management focuses on optimizing space utilization. On the other hand, this approach may not apply to retail outlets...
