Apart from a professional Life Every one has their own personal life. Some times Maintaining balance between both is diffcult  due to emergencies and serious family issues. In this situation Manager has to give due consideration to their staff only at reasonable level. Staff memebers have high expectations with their managers to consider their personal issues during abnormalities.Manager must have to adapt friendly approach while dealing with this kind of issues and its is Good for both.

That depends on the depth of our relationship. I did seek my manager for his advice on personal issues. We worked together for more than10 years and had a prety strong relationship.

I will consider such an approach as non-professional if the relationship is just starting or if it is a formal one. I see that my manager will be the one to control the depth of our relationship.

Just if he/she represents a friend for you. Otherwise it is not suitable to ask him/her.

I'd rather not ask advise to a personal problem from my manager. I could inform my manager if there is an issue in my personal life tht is affecting my performance so that s/he knows what it is all about.
