In my opinion, its never too late to start a career in sales and marketing....you just have to work on yourself, read a lot, and observe expereinced coworkers (in that field)... there will be ups and downs, and sometimes you feel like this thing is not for you, but u have to be persistent and never give up...

you have to understand, that even though a degree is important , its not enough ....and it will take some years of experience and hardwork for you to be ready to lead or manager a team...

My advice to you would be to start reading some books... you can start with "who moved my cheese"

Good Luck

Sales is just a tip of an iceberg therefore before entering into Marketing domain one must understand the concepts and theories by heart for example Marketing in simple terms is like Gardening whereas Sales is the fruits thanks to that gardening effort.

Marketing has many terms associated like there which i had heard is there are 159 marketing terms like affiliate marketing, Guerilla Marketing, Account Based Marketing, Article / Ambush/ Augmented /Behaviour /   Above the Line (ATL and BTL)/Brand Mktg / Brick and Motor Mktg /B2B,B2C,B to P (People) ,Cause Mktg/ Buzz Mktg/ Catalogue / Celebrity / Close range Mktg /Channel Mktg /Cloud Mktg / Close Loop Mktg etc etc etc......

Sales or a marketing role for that matter does not necessarily require any prior experience, however skills do matter. For a fresher, its always easy to start with sales or marketing. For an experienced professional not from a sales or marketing background, the knowledge he/she brings to the table from the other function is definitely an added advantage. However one would definitely need the requisite skills and be able to prove them in order to make that career move. Having said that, for a high level position in sales, varying with the company hierarchy, it is very difficult to switch to sales or marketing without experience given the critical nature of these positions and their direct impact on customer relations and business revenues.

Definitely we need experience in any field we would like to master..

If the job title or position is junior or preliminary specially in sales it may doesn't need but requires some talents But when we speaking about marketing and management level, they should have experience as the market goes in a dynamic way so we have to expect and not only react but be proactive as well.

In my opinion, Sales and Marketing can be applied to any product or service. If you know the basics, you will be able to sell or Market a product / Service. But If you have practical experiance in the field or same industry it will be very easy for you to carry out your job. I have seen good salemen changing industries and doing well. Only you need is the desire to achieve good and positive attitude.

Thank You

Naresh
