What do you mean by Presales Technical Support? As far as I know Support services are of 3 types L1, L2 and L3 and there is no Presales in it. The support to any IT product, service is given after you implement it and not prior to implementation.
Presales is a function which closely works with Sales in order to support all the work related to pre sale of the product or service. Presales guys understands Business and Technology and will be able to present the capabilities of an organization in terms of presenting capability pitches, conducting demos etc.
Presales guys also have to work on responding to RFP's in collaboration with cross functional teams including, Delivery, Sales, Finance, Legal etc.
I believe the presales must work as a technical support engineer for long time to be able to provide a real solutions. the presales is a consultant so he most know what to be done and how to be done.
One should be capable of doing consultative selling for that i believe it is important to know what competition is doing and how one can build a similar or better solution that it.
