- Book, fine & mine: Each of these words could have many irrelevant meanings conducted by the same spelling!

- (Version & Virgin) have different spellings and meanings, yet have identical pronounciation!

A few more:

Leave - to depart, time off (as in leave of absence), let it be (as in leave a lone) etc

fine - monetary forfeit, good (as in the weather), first rate (as in fine dining), very light or delicate.

hold - part of a ship or aeroplane, to clutch onto something, to have power or influence over someone.

boot - part of a car (trunk), kick, form of footwear.

 

Then there are other words that are spelt differently but sound the same and have different meanings:

Flower/Flour

Stationery/Stationary

Then there are those that are spelt the same, have different meanings and are pronounced differently:

Live - To exist as in "to live".

Live - Active, current as in a "live" show on the TV.
