Android and iOS both are used in SmartPhone technologies.

Andoid is based on Linux but iOS is based on MAC OS/Unix.

Android is open source But iOS is more likely not open source.

Android native development is done using Java while iOS development is done using Objective-C language.

Android based applications and games are used by many mobile devices like Samsung, HTC, QMobile, and many more But iOS developed apps and games are used only by Apple devices like iPhones and Tablets.

Android developement is done using an iDE like Eclipse But iOS development is done using XCode.

iOS have more charming UI than Android.

I totally agree with Muhammad Javed Iqbal in his answer especially:

  • Android and iOS both are used in SmartPhone technologies.
  • Andoid is based on Linux but iOS is based on MAC OS/Unix.
  • Android is open source But iOS is more likely not open source.

It is simple. Android is for Android phones like Samsung Galaxy S5, etc. and iOs is for Apple or Mac phones such as iPhone.

In respect to developement IOS is not opensource whereas android is opensource .This means developers are fee to create thier own versions of android .IOS could be said to be more secure this way but then again its upto the usage.  Ios app development uses objective c and android is based on java.in conclusion android is more of San open platform, with plenty of options to customize and hardware to choose from where as ios has  refined controlled experience, where the experience is tightly controlled at every step.

Google's Android and Apple's iOS are operating systems used primarily inmobile technology, such as smartphones and tablets. Android, which isLinux-based and partly open source, is more PC-like than iOS, in that its interface and basic features are generally more customizable from top to bottom. However, iOS' uniform design elements are sometimes seen as being more user-friendly
