It all depends, usually it is a norm but there should be a limit to how far this relationships can go. Don't over do it,keep it balanced. Too much will affect performance.
It is important to have a good working relationship with your employees with open communication and honesty. Being able to do out of work activities together for team building is also beneficial, and building a relationship of trust and respect is very important.
Friendships on a personal level, however, are not advisable between manager and employee. This is because they bring a risk of affwcting the level of professionalism from both sides at work. The employee might expect more from their manager because of tgeir friendship, leading to disappointment if they do not actually get this 'special' treatment. If the manager does in fact give this employee extra benefits because of their friendship, this will quickly be observed by colleagues who will feel unfairly treated.
In addition, it is preferable for the manager to maintain a level if privacy.
As a manager you should not be friends with your employees in your personal life, because if you emotionally (as a friend) involved with your employees that would cloud your judgement about them and their judgement about you.
Because a good team is everything for a valuable business, you should be able to take any action necessary for a less valuable employee and being friends would not make this easier.
Well on the personal note it is difficult to say whether it is good or bad to have a personal friendship with your employees. Good in a sense that it will create a better working envirnoment but in most cases employees start taking things for granted wich will make problems for the manager in terms of performance.
Yes manager can have gathering out of work but it shouldn't be effecting the working envirnoment. Work and personal replationship doesn't glue togherer and should have a clear bounderies.
Employees with a higher quality relationship with their Manager have more access to information & professional experience and will be more likely to succeed in the workplace.

not recommended
It is very important to be work friends with your colleagues & subordinates with a certain distance to be maintained. We all will prefer a work environment where we are open with our seniors and can share our ideas without having a second thought about it. I will even suggest offical outings with colleagues and even informal dinners are fine.
But as far as being friends outside of work is considered I will suggest to stay away from it, You can mingle to a certain extent but once it goes beyond a certain level it can hamper your & your colleagues judgement also which will actualy result in compromise of judgement.
It is always wise to keep business & professional relationships seperate. At workplace, we compete with each other whereas relationships donot sustain with competition or comparison. They need compomise
I would call it a professional friendship relation in order to motivate them and get the performance you want but at the same time keeping the respect between employee and manager
Yes with limits of course. It has to be kept professional.
