NAS used in where there is an need  of Low cost and moderate performance storage requirements. Its achieved over existing Ethernet network and less complicated as compared to SAN. Its used for file based access rather than block based access.  Most commonly used in all environments for user/group shares.

NAS is a type of dedicated file storage device that provides local-area network local area network (LAN) nodes with file-based shared storage through a standard Ethernet connection.

NAS devices only provide the File level storage for user.
