In the banking industry, which learning is more valued - one derived from experience (i.e. on the job) or one through education (eg: Certification)?

This pertains to mid-career hiring where the bank has the option to choose between relevant experienced candidate and one with lesser experience but an additional qualification in that particular area.

Through professional Education is MUST for career growth and personal career development. On job experience and training is good internally.

Both are valued but CPE (continuous professional education) is must to remain relevant to your field.
