Writing columns in newspapers is a good start. As for starting a career as journalist, it is not difficult and I don't  think the country where you want to start your career matters. As you are in Pakistan, I think you ought to be able to write in Urdu and in English. Most importantly, learning to be a journalist, your glass should be half filled. Meaning, let the senior journalists fill it to the top. Learn from them. It's been18 yrs since am a journalist, still am learning from my seniors.

Now you have to choose in what field you want to specialise yourself – whether investigation, features, police beats, politics or economics.

If you don't have a formal education on Journalism, and yet interested to work in this field, you can start by applying as an apprentice in a newspaper company, radio station, or TV outfit.  Once there, observe how the professionals do it.  Ask questions from them and be eager to learn.  From there, you can start your career in the Journalism field.
