Promotion is a better way than discounting because discounting devalues the product
Raise the comission on this product... you will surprised how the sales team can find ways to market and sell it....
I remember BMW in Qatar used to do that with the previous years models... and all the sales reps would do their best to sell it....and they did...
Discount is not a good approach as it should be only for the items left behind or got old fasioned. You should develop Buy100 and get10 pcs schemes, or try to arrange it with some other items or products as in combinations.. The combination of products sometime or far better idea
Make them more visible and place in high selling zone. promotion ll help to get customer attention then the last step ll be discount based strategies . you can associate offers of some fast moving items. like buy this and get10% discount on that.
It de pends on your projects for this product. If your ptoduct will be kept in the catalogue, it's preferable to avoid using discount method, becouse you'll have to struggle to sell it at a higher price in the future, especially if the slow moving is due to competition.
In all other cases, the promotion is more efficient than discount.

Check if you can bring in a different set of customers i.e FIND NEW USERS /GEOGRAPHY .
Find you can find different uses of the same product .
Plan your stocks accordingly
Advertise it in the online shopping and local media. it will work.
Generaly people gives price discount, i think should wait for slow market condition for price increase. Use dealers/distributors network,50% off sale on that items with formula of double the price.
Should try to sale brochures and delivery added with salesmen.Using for promotion.
