Trying to get the students to "visualise" what they are reading, as they are reading. When reading to them your tone of voice and inflections in your speech help to do this, you can create "atmosphere", they can sense drama, fear, excitement just by the way you speak. Getting them to be more "emotive" is probably the most difficult challenge.
To keep the students concentrated on following up the ideas the texts are trying to deliver without being distracted by unfamiliar vocabularies.
