FIRE SAFETY is not only intended before the occurence of a fire. Although the objective is to prevent a fire, it is not an assurance that no fire will exist if you have a FIRE SAFETY. It also tacle the proper procedures during the fire. What must be done?where to go? dont use the lift and so forth and so on.
Being a maintenance member or a fire safety team, you should not run and go to the assigned assembly point just the other ordinary employee in the building must do. You should act to assist other people who might be in the state of shock and dont know what to do, coordinate with the FIRE MARSHALL in your building and report your assessment on your location. Wait for his advise if you also need to go and vacate the building premises.
If I got the point, the duty of the fire and safety team is to PREVENT the fires and what are they doing if there is a fire?
You are right, sir, this is the primary duty of the fire and safety to make necessary arrangements to prevent a fire from occurring by means of good procedures, policies, active monitoring, PTW etc. but inspite of all arrangements, we depend on human behaviors and due to a small mistake of a single person a catastrophic incident may take place if there are not another layers of protection. So, even if there is a fire, this is the duty of the fire and safety team to evacuate the area, fight a fire, support the injured and make the scene safe.
