Not necessarily. First as a Sales Person it depends who you are selling to. If you are Wholesaler you MUST be a good buyer. You must know in details the market in your field.
But if you are a Retailer this is not necessary. From my experience I can say that better is to be an expert in customer care and to be good in.....psyhology. You must see through the mind of the customer what are his needs and to present him the best service. What I do usually (ofcourse not every time) is to leave my retail customer to lead the conversation and I make some corrections pushing him slightly to what I decide to sell him at the moment.
So if you are Retailer there is no need to be a good buyer.
