“Lean”, is a term to describe a system that produces what the customer wants, when they want it with minimum waste.

A lean system defines what the customer sees as value and classifies everything else as waste.

To become lean, a business must change its processes to cut out waste: this is not the same as “cutting costs”!

What is Lean Production?

Ø      There are many definitions and descriptions of lean production offered.

Ø      Depending on the industry, the source, how long the organization has been leaning about lean production,

Ø      And what their objectives are for adopting lean principles, the definitions and perspectives of lean production differ.

Lean is often described simply as a collection of techniques and tools

Other devices such as plastic markers (Kanban squares) or balls (often golf balls) can also be used to trigger the movement, production, or supply of a Kaizen aims to eliminate waste (as defined by Joshua Isaac Walters "activities that add cost but do not add value"). It is often the case that this means "to take it apart and put back together in a better way." This is then followed by standardization of this 'better way' with others, through standardized work.

Lean production or lean manufacturing

Ø      Lean production or lean manufacturing is, in its most basic form, the systematic elimination of waste and the implementation of the concepts of continuous flow and customer pull. Its goal is to incorporate less human effort, less inventory, less time to develop products, and less space so as to become highly responsive to customer demand while producing top quality products in the most efficient and economical manner possible.
