Can I use 3rd generation intel processor with gigabyte GA-h61M-S2V-B3 rev 1.1

i have a processoer dual core2.6 Ghz /2M cache G1610 http://ark.intel.com/products/71072/Intel-Celeron-Processor-G1610-2M-Cache-2_60-GHz , and a motherboard Gigabyte GA-h61M-S2V-B3 rev1.1 http://w.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3875#bios could thay work with each other , I tried But I failed , then when I went to Gigabyte website i found that the bios can be updated , then the proccessor will work , so how can that happend ,How can I make something newer work with old thechnology specially when we talk a bout different generation

You said that you have tried and failed. How did you know that you have failed?  How did you install the processor ? And what went wrong ?

You have no choice other than updating the BIOS.
