I see that the main reason is that technology innovation was never defined as a strategic goals for the arab countries.
Consuming technologies is not a bad move as long as we at least understand what technologies are we using and what is the best way to use them to our benefit, but I think that the countries in the reagion must start to strategically target technological innovations at least in the fields in which our countries do have competitive advanatages.
If this is achieved, I exepct to see collaborative tactical plans to implement such strategies and measure performance for achieving them.
from global business viewpoint. it might be becuase of competitive advantage. the arabic countries have lots of resources in sort of Oilfield and strategic geography for trading purposes. so it seems logic to focus on their available resources where they have competitive advantage and outsource the other resources like technology.
This is simply related to the delay – for decades – behind the western world to apply and live the new modern advanced technological applications of life.
That is why there is a rush now to reduce this big gap through high consumption of technological applications more than any other areas (which are already developed).
