Laser Scanning is a fast data collection of3D data, It's similar to reflectorless total station, but in case of laser scanning you didn't aim to a point but you survey an area with predefined resolution/spacing as per your required application.

The product of laser scanning is a point cloud (huge/millions number of3D point coordinates) each point has X,Y,Z and Intensity (grey scale depend on the target reflectivity), when merging these data with digital images we could get colored point cloud X,Y,Z,R,G,B.

Regarding who can work on it, any Geomatics engineer has the knowledge, equipment and processing software can deal with laser scanning, but dealing with such amount of data need some experience.

Regarding the field of use, It's used in many disciplines (e.g.3D modeling, archeological documentation, As built survey, long range survey and Land sliding monitoring) as i mentioned laser scanning can work when you couldn't occupy/reach your target area and also when large amount of data needed to be surveyed with high accuracy and high resolution in very short time.
