How is it that some employers specify the gender and age of an applicant in their adverts?

I understand certain roles needs a particular gender, but surely a person should be offered a job on the basis of their ability and competence to do the job. Does any one else think this is fair in terms of appointing the right person and it promotes good practice?

Dear Pamela

As per business needs we have to specify the gender of every job role.

This could be for community reasons ( like middle east it's not easy for girls to work overnight shifts as an example )

could be else because of the nature of work ( like Mining ) This work we call it as3D which is :

Dirty

Dangerous

Difficult

Hope that I could help with this
