Great question! There could be multiple viewpoints/answers to this question depending on the organisational structure and which policies the organisation choses to adopt. However, when communicating this answer formally and informally my answer would be as follows:
Work performance data: The raw data identified and collected during the management of any project. Whilst managing the various process groups of the project life cycle, the raw data and measurements such as technical performance measurements, total change requests, defects identified and managed, etc., should be collected and stored. Although this raw data will then be transformed into valuable project information, it does not necessarily mean that work performance information is the collected and transformed raw data, but for some organisations this will be the case.
Work performance information: Strictly the information in which is vital to current status of the project such as status of deliverables,status of defects, and implementation status for change requests. However, as mentioned previously this should also include the raw performance data collected and transformed into information for the current project status.
Work performance reporting: The final part of the structure. The information collected is then presented in a report like format intended to generate decisions or raise issues, actions, or awareness. The information will need to be made displayable in order for the project team/management to make necessary decisions.
The Project Manager must monitor project performance through regular project meetings. These meetings are conducted in order to identify issues, progress and status.
So the project manager receives performance data / or performance status from his team members and then the project manager should produce project reports to management, the team and project
stakeholders. Project reviews should also be conducted in order to understand the actual status of the project in line with the triple constraints
Having said this, it is very important that the data or status reports that the project manager recieves from the team memebers are accuare and true reflection of the current status of the project.
