The marketing manager evaluates the financial aspect of development. He adjusts the development with the company’s financial goals and means (budget).  He also assesses the relevance of the product to the current market. If necessary, the marketing manager suggests changes to product development in order to optimize its success among current customers.

Lets break it down to the basics.

Marketing Manager takes care of 'Marketing'. The elements that make 'Marketing', also known as the 'Marketing Mix', is made of up4 to7 Ps.

Product, Price, Place, Promotion ... arguably, also, People, Process, Physical Evidence.

Check any literature on marketing. The first P is always the product, not promotion.

That is how a marketing manager is related to the product. He brings insights from the market that help improve the product / service. However, most people forget this concept the moment they are out of the business school. Majority consider marketing to be a synonym of promotion, only.
