Definitely. In fact it is time the job title of Administrative Assistant was changed, as personally I do not believe the title does the actual job justice. Admin Assistants tend to do most of the clerical, admin, secretarial tasks in their jobs. Sometimes employers get away with advertising for Admin Assistants so that a lower salary/wage can be paid, when in fact the Admin Assistant can end up doing the job of a full blown Secretary or other office worker role.
In most jobs now, it is hard for even the most senior of office workers to get away from doing admin work and throughout of my working career I have done admin work whether it was part of my role or not. However, doing the admin does prepare you for more advanced levels of office work and eventually office role. Admin jobs today are a little bit of other jobs all mixed into one. The key is to be able to perform all of the tasks efficiently, quickly, developing new skills and aiming to develop in the role or other roles.
Of course. The genesis of my career was inaugurated through a Administrative Assistant position. I underwent a tremendous improvement in communication. After a while, I used my administrative experiences to enter into a Sales Position. Eventually, I was hired as a Copy Writer, simply because I had abudant skills in writing and it was complimented by, well, you guessed it right, administrative experience!
