Project management is not limited to civil engineering. Any instance where knowledge, skills and techniques are applied efficiently and effectively to execute projects qualifies as project management. Projects need not essentially be artificats like buildings etc., they may even exist as visual artifcats such as a software implementation etc as long as it achieves the particular aim at hand.Once can increase credibility in project management by pursuing certificate courses like Project Management Professional which are highly valued and recognized provided you are experienced.

Project Management can be for any professional (Anyone who's involved in projects) It's not limited for engineers. The misfortune for middle east especially in countries like Saudi Arabia is they believe engineers are the answers for everything. The concept of "Right man for the Right job" barely exists.

I work with doctors/professors, research scientists and engineers etc at the King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals and Alhamdulillah i'm often in touch with experts of various professional streams and competencies. I've seen doctors/engineers with faces gone pure white and are dumbfounded when faced with business related issues. (Speaking about those with no professional background/certification/training in business). Just as i wouldn't know how to work their field without professional training, the same goes for them with mine.

Project Management skills are needed for initiating, planning, executing, monitoring/controlling and closing of projects especially by managers (Anyone whoes responsible for managing a project or directing a project team especially).
